My name is Isabel Fonts and I am a chemical engineer (2004) and Doctor from the University of Zaragoza (2010), where I was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. My doctoral thesis focused on the energy recovery of waste through pyrolysis for the production of bio-oil, a line of research that I have continued to develop and expand over the following years. Since March 2022, I am a Ramón y Cajal fellow at the Thermochemical Processes Group belonging to the I3A of the University of Zaragoza, where I am developing a project on the sustainable production of ammonia by gasification. For 10 years and a half, I was Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Environment (Centro Universitario de la Defensa), combining my teaching duties (~2000 h, 21 undergraduate and master's theses and 1 doctoral thesis) with my research tasks.

I have 42 publications, including 36 JCR indexed articles in Q1-Q2 journals, reaching an h-index of 22. Most of my publications are within the top 10% of the most cited in the subject and have a high citation rate per year. These publications include 4 very prominent review articles. One of them, of which I am the first author as well as corresponding author, has 546 citations, being highlighted by WoS as Highly Cited Paper in 2016. Another 2 review articles were awarded within the top 25 most cited papers among those published by Energy and Fuels in 2016 and 2017. In addition, I have co-authored 22 scientific book chapters, 4 teaching book chapters, 3 of them in a prestigious book published by Elsevier, and 1 teaching book. I have also given 24 oral presentations and 44 poster presentations at national and international conferences. Currently, I belong to the Editorial Board Committee of Biomass and Bioenergy, a indexed JCR journal belonging to Elsevier.

I have participated as a research team member in 7 projects (1.6 M€) of the National Research Plan and as principal investigator in 10 research projects of competitive calls (300 m€). I would like to highlight the project (CTQ2015-72475-EXP) of the Explora 2015 call, of which I was principal investigator, due to the competitiveness of this call. I have also been co-PI, together with Dr. Gloria Gea, of the project (PID2022-137016OB-I00), which has made significant progress in the production of low-cost adsorbents for capturing ammonia gas emissions. I have also participated in 8 R&D transfer contracts (500 m€ of euros). Regarding my mobility and internationalization, I carried out a 6-month predoctoral research stay in a world-leading research group in pyrolysis and gasification under the supervision of Dr. Anja Oasmaa (VTT, Finland), establishing a strong collaboration that resulted in 1 research article and 1 review article published in co-authorship. My scientific publications show a strong internationalization and relevance of my research, since 9 of my 27 JCR articles (33%) were published with prestigious researchers from different foreign and national institutions such as VTT, Washington State University, Twente University, or the Institute of Chemical Technology. In my opinion, research topics as the production of biofuels for transportation, especially aviation fuels, the capture of ammonia emissions to recover nitrogen, and the valorization of fuel-N residues, such as manure, will be of key importance in the near future.
