El núcleo de mi investigación es la fiabilidad de sistemas. Con este propósito, desarrollo dos líneas de trabajo. La primera se dirige a la descripción y análisis de métricas que cuantifiquen el riesgo de fallo. La segunda se centra en la construcción de modelos de mantenimiento cuyo objetivo es prevenir que el sistema falle, garantizando su funcionamiento cuando se requiere su uso, a la par que se prolonga su vida útil. En algunos casos el mantenimiento se acompaña de una política de inspección a fin de detectar fallos que, de otro modo, pasarían desapercibidos. En este tipo de problemas el intervalo de tiempo entre inspecciones es una variable de decisión incuestionable que, además alberga implicaciones en aplicaciones prácticas. Mi investigación aborda, asimismo, la calidad del mantenimiento, asumiendo que éste puede ser deficiente por diferentes causas tales como el uso de material defectuoso, repuestos con defectos ocultos o reciclados imperfectos. Todas ellas pueden provocar que la fiabilidad de un sistema tras el mantenimiento sea inferior a la esperada. 3 sexenios de investigación.
