Dr. Encarna Esteban is professor in the Department of Economic Analysis at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (University of Zaragoza). She is a researcher and expert in water and environmental economics, with a specialization in the development and application of mathematical and economic models. Encarna holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Zaragoza (2010) and a M.S. in Environmental and Resource Economics from the University of Connecticut – USA (2008). Dr Esteban’s research spans a broad range of topics related to environmental economics, natural resource modeling and political economy applied to natural resources. She has made substantial contributions to the study of climate change and water scarcity through the integration of climate models with water resource models. Her publications also cover the management and control of groundwater resources, climate change impacts at global and regional scales, and the modeling of aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, she has also investigated in issues related with political economy, institutional and behavioral analyses applied to natural resources and by using game theory approaches. Dr. Esteban has published more than 50 articles, working and dissemination documents. She has 28 published articles in peer-reviewed journals, notable publications include articles in journals such as Ecological Economics, Environmental & Resource Economics, Global Environmental Change, Science of the Total Environment, or International Review of Environmental and Resource Economics. Her work has been widely cited in the fields of environmental economics, water policy and resource economics. Dr. Esteban has presented her findings at numerous international conferences and symposia, some of them as invited speaker. Throughout her career, Dr. Esteban has been actively involved in 22 international, national and regional research projects related to the study of natural resources, water management and climate change adaptation (some of them as IP). She is currently the IP of a National Research project (2021-2025), the Co-IP of a European project (2024-2027) within the call of ForestValue2 (European network of public funding) and the Co-IP of a regional project (Government of Aragon).  
In addition to their research, Encarna Esteban has taught undergraduate-level courses on econometric modeling, microeconomics, and environmental economics, additionally, she has taught a graduate-level course on game theory applied to water resources. She has also been the co-advisor 2 PhD (thesis defended on 2022 and 2023).
Finally, Dr. Esteban is also involved in several academic and research administrative duties. She is currently the Vice-dean of Student at the School of Social Sciences in the University of Zaragoza (from 2021). She has been the secretary and Treasurer of the Spanish and Portuguese Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERNA). She is member of several environmental economics and natural resources associations and she is also member of two high-standing international organizations such as the ICRE8 (The International Centre for Research on the Environment and the Economy), AE4RIA (Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on ¿ephoria) and she is the coordinator of the area of ecosystems and natural resources of the ‘Cátedra Tervalis of Bioeconomía’ (Universidad de Zaragoza). Finally, she is associate-editor in the peer-review journal Water Economis and Policy.
